During the period when root growth is dominant, maintain appropriate soil moisture—avoid excessive watering—and prioritize shallow cultivation to conserve soil moisture; generally, irrigate sparingly or not at all. At the onset of flowering, both excessive moisture and severe drought are undesirable; therefore, adopt a strategy of initial drip irrigation followed by combined soil-moisture conservation through cultivation.
Vegetable drip irrigation should be tailored to soil conditions. According to Xiamen Huazui Irrigation, the primary factor determining whether to implement drip irrigation is soil moisture; when soil moisture is deficient, irrigation should be applied promptly; when soil moisture is adequate, shallow cultivation should be carried out to conserve moisture; and when soil moisture is excessive, drainage must be ensured. Irrigation is also affected by high temperatures, so it should not be conducted during the intense midday sun but rather in the morning or afternoon.
