1. The emitter flow rate in our region should be 1.8–3.0 L/h. A higher emitter flow rate will result in substantial water consumption.
2. The emitter spacing is typically 300–400 mm; for most systems, maintaining uniformity is difficult when the spacing is below 200 mm.
3. Flow index: for labyrinth-type drip irrigation tape, the typical value is 0.5–0.6; the lower, the better.
4. Flow uniformity coefficient: the flow uniformity coefficient (CV) is less than 5%.

6. Tensile properties are often related to the proportion of new materials used; the higher the proportion of new materials, the better the tensile performance. Drip irrigation tapes made with recycled materials generally fail to meet the required tensile performance standards.
7. Anti-aging performance, which determines the service life of drip irrigation tape, primarily depends on whether an appropriate amount of high-quality carbon black and antioxidants has been added.
Hazards of low-quality drip irrigation tape: During use, such tape often exhibits problems like dripping, uneven flow rates, cracking, and pipe bursts, which can compromise proper irrigation of farmland and severely hinder crop growth and farmers’ income increases. The main manifestations and consequences of these hazards can be summarized as “one labor cost, two instances of unevenness, and three reductions.”
Labor-intensive: Insufficient tensile strength leads to rupture of the drip irrigation tape during seeding and laying, which slows down the seeding process and increases laying and installation costs.
Unevenness: Irrigation and fertilization are uneven; low-quality drip irrigation tape develops aging cracks or bursts during use, leading to localized flooding in some areas and clogging or water diversion in others. Near the lateral pipes, irrigation is excessive, while the area between two laterals receives insufficient watering, resulting in uneven crop growth across the field and wasted water and fertilizer. On average, water consumption increases by 20–30 cubic meters per mu. Uneven growth also affects mechanical topping and mechanical harvesting, thereby increasing costs.
Third, yields are low. Taking cotton as an example, uneven water and fertilizer application typically reduces seed-cotton yield by more than 20 kilograms per mu. Low operating pressure is another issue: low-quality drip irrigation tape often has poor structural integrity, making it prone to bursting and leaking, with an unfavorable flow distribution and excessively high emitter discharge rates. The original rotational irrigation scheme results in low-pressure operation, which directly leads to a significant decline in irrigation uniformity across the entire system, thereby preventing the full realization of the advantages of drip irrigation uniformity. Moreover, low-pressure operation reduces pump efficiency and can even prevent the pump from operating properly, further increasing electricity costs due to the higher water volume required. At the same time, such conditions increase the risk of motor burnout, driving up maintenance expenses.
